About the Afterschool Incubator
The Denver Afterschool Alliance serves as an incubator of new initiatives and ideas that have the power to improve afterschool experiences.
Through the Afterschool Incubator, we partner with local and national philanthropic funders, government agencies and youth-serving organizations to pilot innovative programs in Denver that enhance quality and build stronger, more emotionally-intelligent afterschool organizations.
Legacy Initiatives
The SEAL Initiative
In 2017, the Wallace Foundation selected Denver as one of six cities to help implement the Partnerships for Social Emotional Learning Initiative (PSELI), known locally as the SEAL Initiative. Through this partnership, the DAA and Denver Public Schools worked together to build the capacity of select day-schools and afterschool programs to integrate SEAL into their organizational practices, staff structures and goals for youth. SEAL has been infused and embedded throughout all DAA offerings and is the foundation of quality.
Healthy Lifestyles
After hearing from youth-service providers and youth themselves that there were few marijuana awareness and education resources available, the DAA partnered with the YESS Institute to develop Health Lifestyles, a marijuana curriculum for middle-schoolers. The Healthy Lifestyles program has evolved to include Vaping and Opioid curricula in response to youth and community feedback. The program was made possible through funding from the City and County of Denver’s revenue marijuana sales tax to support early prevention efforts through afterschool programs.
